Walmart has expanded its budget-friendly electronics offerings with the launch of six new Onn-branded Android 16 tablets, available now both online and in stores. The new lineup aims to provide affordable tablet options across different screen sizes and use cases, starting with the 7-inch model priced at just $97.

The collection features a 13-inch Pro model for $288, an 11-inch Core for $167, an 8.1-inch Core for $138, and a 7-inch Core for $97. Additionally, two child-oriented tablets are available, with 11-inch and 8-inch screens, priced at $136 and $118 respectively. All new Onn tablets are equipped with Android 16 out of the box, promising the latest software features for budget-conscious consumers.

The premium offering in the new range is the Onn 13 Pro Tablet. It boasts a large 13-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2400x1600 pixels. While the processor is an undisclosed MediaTek chip running at 2.6GHz, the tablet is configured with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Photography and video calls are handled by an 8MP front camera and a 13MP rear camera. Notably, the 13-inch model includes stylus support and comes bundled with both a stylus and a folio case. Early reports also indicate an IP54 dust and water resistance rating, an "Extended Display Mode," and face recognition capabilities.

Core Models Offer Varied Screen Sizes and Specs

The mid-range "Core" series provides more options for users seeking a balance of size and performance. The Onn 11 Core Tablet features an 11-inch display with a 1840x1280 resolution. It is powered by a MediaTek MT8781N chipset, also known as the Helio G99, paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. This model includes a 2MP front camera and a 5MP rear camera, with support for expanding storage via a microSD card. Available in Silver, Navy, Mocha, and Pink, Walmart estimates up to 17 hours of battery life for this device.

For users preferring a smaller form factor, the Onn 8.1 Core Tablet offers an 8.1-inch IPS LCD display (1524x1000 resolution) and a Snapdragon 685 chipset. It comes with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, also supporting microSD expansion, and shares the same 2MP front and 5MP rear cameras as the 11-inch Core model. This tablet is available in the same four color options and, like the 11-inch version, does not explicitly mention stylus support in its specifications.

The most affordable option, the Onn 7 Core Tablet, is priced at $97 and sports a 7-inch display with a 1024x600 resolution. It runs on Android 16 and is powered by a Helio G80 chipset, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage, with microSD card support. This model features a 2MP camera on both the front and back and is noted to have an aluminum build, distinguishing it from some of the other Core models. It also comes in the same color palette as the larger Core tablets.

Walmart's foray into the Android tablets market with its Onn brand highlights a growing trend of retailers offering their own branded hardware. This strategy allows them to compete in price-sensitive segments and capture a larger share of consumer electronics sales. The inclusion of Android 16 across the entire new range, even on the entry-level models, is a significant move, offering users access to the latest software features and security updates.

The retail giant is also catering to younger users with two dedicated kids' tablets. Both models are encased in protective bumper cases with integrated kickstands and offer a child-friendly software environment. They also include a 45-day free subscription to ABC Mouse. The 11-inch kids' tablet features an 1840x1280 display, a MediaTek G88 chipset, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and stylus support. The 8-inch version has a 1524x1000 screen, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and an unspecified MediaTek processor. Both are available in blue, purple, orange, and pink.
